After 57 years in the McDonald’s system, Tim Thomas has decided to retire. Tim’s career began in 1968 as a crew member in Rialto, California, where he worked for the corporation. Over the years, he advanced through various roles, including in the HR department.
The keys to Tim Thomas’s success are training and motivation. He developed a “3-R Philosophy”: Results, Recognition, and Reward. He met his future wife, Shirley, and was eager to get married. Like McDonald’s, Tim and Shirley have remained strong together for 55 years.
Throughout his career, Tim witnessed significant developments in the McDonald’s system, including the introduction of the Big Mac, Breakfast rollout, new building designs with Playlands, the drive-thru, and the inclusion of McDonald’s in Walmart. He also experienced innovations like “Made for You,” all of which improved Quality, Service, and Cleanliness (QSC) and Value (V).
In 1992, Tim received his first two stores in Arkansas, and in 2008, he sold his four McDonald’s locations and purchased seven stores in Las Vegas, ultimately expanding to eleven within five years. He served as the Great Southern Region Service Lead and held the role of Service Lead in Las Vegas for three years. Over the years, he has received numerous honors, including the Ronald Award, the Eagle Award, and various Service and People awards.
Tim’s secret to longevity in the industry? Embrace change! He maintains a balanced life of business and family, empowers his leadership team and general managers, and follows the 3 R’s: Results, Recognition, and Reward.
When asked what’s next for him, Tim replied, “More golf, more travel experiences with Shirley, and growing spiritually.”
Thank you, Tim! It’s clear that your passion and personal principles have not only benefited you but have also greatly contributed to the McDonald’s system.
